Obama’s Real Reason for Choosing Ghana

Washington, DC – As the 44th US president prepares to land at Kotoka International Airport in Accra Ghana, his press corps back in America has uncovered what has left so many other African leaders scratching their heads: The real reason he selected Ghana for his first sub-Saharan visit.
“It’s simply because Ghana and Obama rhyme”, said one White House aide.
It appears many other continental “heavyweights” were on the list, but could not match Ghana’s prose appeal. He confided that the choice had little to do with Ghana’s peaceful democracy or the present lack of a war.
“We know for a fact that there will be many, many poems and songs written about this event,” our source tells us, “and we had to make the job as easy for all involved as possible.”
MaizeBreak’s interns spent the night analyzing that theory. What they found was astonishing, and supported the White House’s claims:
Obama goes to Nigeria.
Nooo…
Obama visits Kenya
Ermmm!
Obama sees Zimbabwe
Ehh heh! (in the negative tone)
BUT!
Obama in Ghana
…
We were all stunned at the brilliance.
Surely, there is nothing that this oratory master does that is not well calculated and deliberate! In the meantime, Ghana’s regional rival Nigeria is licking her political wounds and is considering officially changing the country’s name to the moniker “Naijah” to be more appealing in the future. The reason for the choice came as a shocking, but pleasant surprise for many of Nigeria’s MPs.
“We really thought it was because our country was corrupt, had constant light off (power failures), kidnappings and shootings, and is generally too congested,” said one minister. “It is a relief to know that we shall not have to change our ways, just our name!”
